More sketches again. I swear I'll be posting up some actual full-fledged illustrations soon! I promise!
Anyhow, this is yet another homework assignment. Basically I had to create some kind of transportation for the two characters I created before for the symbiotic characters assignment.
You can find a LOT of tiger and dragon motifs within Asian art and this is particularly true of the Yin Yang where the tiger represents yin (darkness, water, wind, earth, passive traits, and the female aspect) where as the dragon represents yang (light, fire, rain, sky/heavens, active traits, and the male aspect). I decided the national animal and imperial symbol of the kingdom in my magical Korea-land would be a mix of those two creatures and merged a tiger with a standard Chinese dragon.
Thus, Baekho the Tiger-Dragon was born! Baekho gets his name from the White Tiger symbol from Chinese Astronomy. (Also known as Byakko in Japanese and Baihu in Chinese)
Kyu-Hwang eventually learns that poachers have captured a Tiger-Dragon and are either planning to sell it alive to the highest bidder, or slaughter it in order to sell it's highly prised components which are often used in medicines, tonics, and various elixirs. Tiger-Dragons are nearly extinct, and even though there is a ban on hunting them, poachers are making a lot of money selling them on the black market.
This is very similar to our world where despite the tiger's endangered status, various asian countries continue to hunt them down in order to sell their pelts for traditional clothing and their bones/organs/various body parts for random medicines.
Despite Jae-Hwa's protests (she doesn't think they'd be able to free the dragon and escape without getting killed themselves), Kyu-Hwang descends with Jae-Hwa deep into the Black Market to find and liberate the dragon.
I used a scale brush that I got from Obsidian Dawn Resources: [link]
